Cross Filtering Visuals

Users can cross-filter visualizations in order to pass values from one visual to another.

There are a few methods for cross filtering visuals:

  • Draw interactions between visuals on the same slide.
  • Use a target to create an interaction from one visualization to another visual on a different slide.
  • Define interactions between visuals from the Interaction Manager. Click here for details.

Interact

In order to apply cross filtering to visuals in runtime, you must use the Interact feature.

Right click on the data point by which you want to filter. From the context menu, click Interact (red highlight below), then navigate to the visual that was filtered; you will see that it has been filtered by the given data point, which will appear in the breadcrumb trail.

Users can cross-filter by multiple data points by selecting the Lasso Selection Tool before filtering the visual. Use the lasso tool to drag + select multiple data points, then right click and select Interact from the context menu. However, if the interaction was created in the Interaction Manager, you will need to select Sync to enable cross-filtering of multiple data points.

When an interaction is selectBreadcrumbsed, the elements which have been selected as the filter will be highlighted (red highlight below). They are also listed in the breadcrumb trail of the filtered visual (blue highlight).

To remove interaction filters, simply click anywhere on one of the given the visuals, or use the undo and reset buttons.
